Light As Air: A Community Celebration

Those of us living in this fantastic city all have first-hand experience with the extent of our air pollution problem. We currently have the dubious distinction of the nation’s worst air quality, perhaps most notably in the winter when our dreaded “inversions” settle into the valley for days on end. In the first two months of 2014 alone, air quality along the Wasatch Front exceeded the country’s air pollution standards by at least 15 times. This means that for more than two weeks, our community–especially its most vulnerable populations–were subjected to levels of air pollution deemed to be unsafe and unhealthy.

In an effort to raise awareness in this growing issue, Landis Salon will host Light As Air, a community celebration and fashion show that will bring together positive and like-minded folks who seek to do something about our air quality.

Western Resource Advocates, a regional conservation nonprofit , has been at the forefront of setting healthy air quality standards for the state, and all proceeds raised will go directly to the “Clean Air Utah” division, which serves to regulate and protect our air. Together, they hope to shed light on an identifiable problem with less obvious solutions by reminding everyone that small, personal changes make all the difference.

Join us at the Jeanne Wagner Theater on Sunday, November 2nd for a complete VIP dinner and reception. A cocktail hour with a silent auction and raffle will follow, including performances from some of our state’s best dancers, including dancers from Ballet West, Ryrie Woodbury, Transfusion Hype, NOW International Dance, Underground Dance Crew, and Park City Dance Academy, among others.
