Skylar has an idiosyncratic eye, and he understands that life is chock-full of surprises. Working on magazine spreads for Landis Salons and as the lead studio hair and makeup artist at a prominent photography studio has given Skylar the ability to see what is individual or unique about a person. These opportunities have informed his ideas about change—representing movement, possibility and inspiration. Initially, his abilities and excellence were nurtured through his training at the Davis Applied Technology College and under the tutelage of local talent Don Moore. He was a member of the DATC National Technical Honor Society and competed and placed in competitions like Skills USA. Most notably, he competed and placed at the 2011 Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards in Chicago, Illinois. He says that competing on-stage and working back-stage at photo shoots and fashion shows has changed his life. It has not only helped build an accomplished portfolio, but has also helped cultivate his emerging style. His role models are the “bionic” pop artist Viktoria Modesta and Japanese film director and artist Hayao Miyazaki. Nevertheless, for Skylar, service with excellence is a top-honor. As a seasoned artist, Skylar specializes in delivering bold hair color, progressive haircuts, exceptional men’s styling and exquisite presentation. His vision for the future is to become an Aveda Purefessional in order to share his knowledge and success by teaching aspiring new artists.
